Electro Chemistry Intro2

#Important terminologiesPart2  ~ Insulators : The substances which do not allow electricity to pass through them (or) the substances which do not conduct electricity are known as insulators .  Eg:      - Pure water , Glucose (C 6 H 12 O 6 ) , Rubber , Mica , Organic compounds like Urea   ~ Semi Conductors : The substances with less conductivity than conductors but more than Insulators are known as semi conductors .               - They can formed by doping III A (or) V A  group elements in place of IV A group elements . Eg:    - Pure Silicon , Germanium , Silicon Carbide ~ Super Conductors : Substances with 0 (or) no resistivity are known as super conductors . Eg:   - Ceramics and certain alloys ~ Electrolytes :   Substances which produce ions and conduct electricity in molten or aqueous state are known as electrolytes . Conductivity is due to the free ions produced in molten or aqueous state ...

Electro Chemistry Intro

Electro Chemistry is the study of Kinetic properties of ions in a solution , production of electricity as a result of chemical reactions and the interconversion between electrical and chemical energies .   Main topics to be discussed:- 1. Electrolysis 2. Electrolytic conduction 3. Galvanic cell 4. Cells and batteries 5. Corrosion   #Introduction and important terminologies ~ Conductors :  The substances which allow the electricity to pass through them are known as conductors . There are two types of conductors   a) Metallic  / Electronic  Conductors : Free electrons are responsible for the conduction of electricity Electrons move from negative terminal to the positive terminal . (Cathode to Anode) When the current flows, no chemical reactions take place . No transfer of mass or matter during a chemical reaction . (The mass of an electron is considerably negligible) Eg:        - Metals like CuS , CdS , HgS in solid state   ...
